(All teachers) Text & tech: Digital opportunities with Sefaria

October 22 @ 9:30 am - 11:45 am

Sara Wolkenfeld, Director of Education, Sefaria
Facilitated by: Rabbi Binyamin Stiefel, Teacher, Hebrew Foundation School

Workshop Code: #LL3
Room: 270

In this hands-on workshop, we will explore ways in which to meaningfully integrate educational technology into the teaching of Jewish texts. You will learn new tricks and tips to make teaching more engaging and make learning more hands-on by mastering the basics of Sefaria. We will examine and discuss model lessons from other teachers, and have time to play with Sefaria’s tools so that you can create your own materials.

Requirements: Bring a laptop or a tablet, create a Sefaria account in advance at https://www.sefaria.org/

Sara lives in Chicago, where she teaches in a variety of educational settings, including schools and synagogues. She previously worked as Director of Education at the Center for Jewish Life, Hillel, at Princeton University, as part of the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus Jewish Life, and as a faculty member at the Drisha Institute in New York City. She holds a BA in Judaica and Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and has studied Talmud and Jewish Law at Midreshet Lindenbaum, Drisha, Pardes, Nishmat, Yeshiva University’s Bernard Revel School, and Beit Morashah.

Rabbi Binyamin Stiefel studied in Rabbinical College of Canada (Montreal) and Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitz (NY), where he received his rabbinical ordination. He taught for several years in Hebrew Academy of Atlanta and is presently employed by Hebrew Foundation School, where he has been teaching for the past 34 years. He has always enjoyed applying the latest technology to the enhancement of the teaching of Limudei Kodesh and is excited about using Sefaria.
