(All teachers) Assessment that matters: Using technology to personalize learning

In this full-day session we will explore the critical role that assessment has in helping create student success. We will explore the differences between assessment for/of/as learning and develop our understanding of the critical differences between formative and summative assessment. As well, through hands-on challenges we will learn how students can use technology to create and to demonstrate their learning through videos, collaborative documents, screencasts and audio recordings. You will leave this session knowing how to create videos, screencasts and more, so that you will feel comfortable having your students demonstrate their learning in different ways. This session is designed for participants with laptops and tablets.
- A laptop or a tablet
- A gmail account and password (if you do not already have one, please create one in advance and make sure you know the password)

Kim is a passionate educator and author who, in June 2016, published her first book, entitled Assessment that Matters: Using Technology to Personalize Learning about how to gather rich assessment information from students’ creations using technology as a tool for learning. In her book, Kim provides the reader with an understanding of the different forms of assessment and provides examples of how to help students use technology to demonstrate their learning in different ways. Kim works to change the way educators view technology. Her expertise includes a focus on effective differentiation, digital literacies, assessment and reflective learning practice. Kim is a device-agnostic educator who encourages professionals in education (including teachers and administrators) to develop a growth mindset, and to take risks in the classroom in order to transform teaching and learning for students. Kim has presented at educational technology conferences such as ISTE 2015, ISTE 2016, ASCD 2015, and the first Canadian Google for Education Leadership Symposium.
